Chick Corea Live in Concert: From Mozart to Monk is Chick’s first-ever virtual solo piano concert, livestreamed from his studio. Join the 23-time Grammy winner as he performs pieces from his new solo piano album, Plays, exploring his “musical lineage” and deftly combining the works of composers generations apart. Chick will even carry forward his solo concert tradition of improvising musical portraits of audience members (all ticket holders will have a chance to apply virtually). Concert to stream live Saturday, October 10th at 4 pm EST. Tickets available for $20 at chickcorealive.com.
On Plays, released on September 11, 2020, via Concord Jazz, Corea engages audiences with surprising pairings of his favorite influences as well as spontaneous improvisations and his own sterling compositions on an intimate, captivating live collection. The composers featured on Plays represent the wide spectrum of Corea’s keyboard influences. He delves far back into the classical repertoire for pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Domenico Scarlatti, Alexander Scriabin and Frédéric Chopin that alone represent 300 years of musical history. His formative jazz influences include Bill Evans and, of course, Thelonious Monk, with the bossa nova beauty of Antônio Carlos Jobim adding the always-important Latin tinges that have long accented Corea’s music. The Great American Songbook offers the Gershwins and Jerome Kern, while Stevie Wonder appears to hint at a more modern pop sensibility.
