Pianist Vijay Iyer will perform at a special gala concert held in the Mary Galvin Recital Hall at the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois on September 18.
The concert aims to raise funds for Chicago’s Indo-American Heritage Museum (IAHM), which honors the heritage and contributions of Indian Americans. The event, titled “Jazz by the Lake,” will also feature guitarist Fareed Haque.
“Jazz by the Lake” will also mark the opening of IAHM’s Hall of Fame. Iyer, the son of Tamil immigrants from India, will be its first inductee. In a press statement, event manager Amita Banerji said, “Through the creation of a Hall of Fame we will honor Indian Americans whose achievements are particularly noteworthy.”
