On May 5, an apartment in Miles Davis’ old Upper West Side townhouse, located in New York City at 312 W. 77th Street (renamed “Miles Davis Way” in 2014), was listed for a sale price of $495,000 — with monthly maintenance of $1,025 — and was sold on June 6 to a female jazz fan.
The 500-square-foot apartment was one of six co-ops that Davis’ townhouse was divided after he moved to Los Angeles in the 1980s. The residence was featured in Don Cheadle’s recently released film
Miles Ahead.
While Davis lived in the apartment, he wrote the music for his albums
Kind of Blue and
Bitches Brew. He also entertained friends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and Herbie Hancock.
