Sing Me Home, the new album by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, will be available from Sony Music Masterworks on April 22.
The Silk Road Ensemble was formed under the artistic direction of cellist Yo-Yo Ma and features performers, artists and composers from more than 20 countries. Also featured in the album are guest performances by guitarist Bill Frisell, kora player Toumani Diabaté, vocalist Gregory Porter and many more.
Sing Me Home is also a companion piece, developed and recorded alongside the upcoming documentary that tells the story of the Ensemble and its parent organization Silkroad; The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. The film is directed by Morgan Neville, who won an Academy Award for his previous documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, which revolved around the hit-making contributions of longtime backup singers like Darlene Love and Merry Clayton.
The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble premiered earlier this year as a Special Gala of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival and is currently slated for theatrical release in June.
