To coincide with the release of Chasin’ Trane, a new documentary about Coltrane’s life and times scheduled to be released later in the year, Rhino have released a six-vinyl set of classic John Coltrane albums titled The Atlantic Years in Mono. The set, first released only on vinyl, will also be made available on CD format from July 8.
The Atlantic Years in Mono includes Coltrane's Atlantic Records albums Bags & Trane (1959) with vibraphonist Milt Jackson, Giant Steps (1960), Olé Coltrane (1961), Coltrane Plays the Blues (1962), The Avant-Garde (1966) with trumpeter Don Cherry and the compilation album The Coltrane Legacy (1970).
All albums have been remastered in mono. The box set will also feature a 32 page booklet including photos of Coltrane from the period in which the albums were recorded, liner notes from Ashley Kahn and those who will opt for the vinyl edition will also find a replica of the original "My Favorite Things Part I & II" single included.
