The 30th Oslo Jazzfestival will run from the 14th to the 20th of August in Norway. Headline acts this year include saxophonist Charles Lloyd, who will be performing with his New Quartet, and Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek who will take to the stage with his own quartet.
A number of tributes and special events will also take place throughout the festival. One of them is a tribute to Benny Goodman by clarinetist Felix Peikl and vibraphonist Joe Doubleday. To highlight the festival's rich tradition, the Oslo Jazzfestival Orchestra 2016 will present an array of Norway's top jazz musicians. The orchestra consists of both young and seasoned artists and its more established members include trumpeter Mathias Eick, saxophonist Trygve Seim, pianist Jon Balke.
In addition, the Festival Academy, an ongoing feature of the Oslo Jazzfestival, will feature a large section of activities aimed at youths and students. The section comprises workshops, master classes, showcases and panel discussions.
The Oslo Jazzfestival will take place in 18 different venues around Oslo, ranging from a 1,400-seat opera house to a small Anglican church with a capacity of 100 people.
