The much awaited new biopic on the life of jazz legend Miles Davis was announced as the closing film of this year's
New York Film Festival, which takes place from the 25th to the 11th of October 2015. The screening will mark the world premiere of the film.
The film is called
Miles Ahead, and it is the first biopic on the life of Miles Davis.
Miles Ahead marks the feature directorial debut of Don Cheadle, who also plays the role of the legendary and pioneering jazz musician. Its narrative particularly focuses on a period of the artist's life in the late seventies and eighties when he decided to take a break from music.
Don Cheadle said in an interview to
Variety in 2014 that "Miles has this incredible facility to move to the next thing and the next thing and not play it safe and repeat himself. When that's exhausted, what do you do? So that to me was a very interesting part of his life."
Miles Ahead also stars Emayatzy Corinealdi and Ewan McGregor. Filming began on July 7, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio and wrapped on August 16 of the same year.
