Santana to head super-group at the Hollywood Bowl, Aug. 24

Guitarist Carlos Santana will play alongside keyboardist Herbie Hancock, bassist Marcus Miller, saxophonist Wayne Shorter and his wife, drummer Cindy Blackman Santana, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on August 24.

The five musicians previously appeared on stage together as part of an ensemble during an event titled “Celebrating Peace,” which was held at the Hollywood Bowl in 2012.

Last summer Santana had announced his plans of forming a similar group, which was to be called Supernova. Plans did not come to fruition and the name of the group was changed to Mega Nova after the addition of Miller to its lineup.

Mega Nova’s August 24 concert seems to be a one-night-only event. No further touring or recording dates have been announced as of yet.
