Previously unheard Erroll Garner takes out on Sept. 30

Ready Take One, a compilation album of previously unreleased tracks by pianist and composer Erroll Garner, will be released on Legacy Recordings on September 30.

The album will feature a mix of songs originally written by the pianist and interpretations of compositions by other artists, such as Chris Smith and Duke Ellington. The 14 tracks on the album were recorded in the studio by Garner and his band from 1967 to 1971. None of these tracks have ever been heard by the public before, making Ready Take One the first new Garner studio album in almost 30 years.

Last year, Legacy and Octave Music reissued Garner’s 1956 album Concert By the Sea in an extended version that featured 11 previously unreleased tracks. The project, titled The Complete Concert by the Sea, entered the Billboard Jazz Albums chart and No. 1 and was the first byproduct of an intense archival effort around the pianist’s music.
