New Context is a groove-forward jazz project that was born from the ashes of a former hip hop band. Exploring complex arrangements, the Chi-based four-piece posts up on the corner between ’70s fusion and Soulquarians-era backbeats, drawing inspiration from torchbearers like the Robert Glasper Experiment and Christian Scott. The unit is led by drummer Ryan Lehrman and features MC Brandon King.
