Inspirational Legacy Jazz illustrates the way jazz music has connected past pioneers of this uniquely American music style with today’s generation. Blind pianist Madison Lea Scott has studied and performed with Charlie Shoemake at the Central Coast Jazz Institute for the past six years. On the West Coast, Charlie has been an accomplished vibraphonist and jazz improvisation teacher for several decades, after touring with George Shearing (himself bind) for seven years. Charlie brings together several of his most talented jazz students to join Madison on a tribute album of bebop jazz piano greats.

A tribute to four great bebop jazz pianist composers Shearing, Powell, Silver & Evans, by blind pianist Madison Lea Scott, vibraphonist Charlie Shoemake and several of Charlie's most talented star students from over four decades of teaching improvisation. Bassist Luther Hughes and drummer Paul Kreibich join Madison to hold down the beat. West Coast trumpeter Kye Palmer and trombonist Andy Martin bring to life three Silver songs along with East Coast saxophonist Ted Nash. Luther & Andy both played with Silver. Guitarist Frank Potenza is featured on three Shearing pieces. Charlie and saxophonist Tim Armacost help showcase Madison's interpretations of three Powell compositions. Charlie and Madison swap solos on a very early Evans’ tune. Madison has been inspired by these famous jazz pianists through studying and performing their music with active jazz musicians who themselves studied under jazz greats. Fittingly, these accomplished “students” of Charlie are actively teaching the next generations of jazz musicians.
