The 17th edition of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival will take place on the 1st and 2nd of April 2016. And it just got grander.

American singer and songwriter Cassandra Wilson will now grace the Rosies stage with her tribute to Billie Holiday. Many critics acknowledge Wilson as the pre-eminent jazz singer of our time and her highly anticipated performance at CTIJF 2016 is set to be a feature for many Festinos.

Multi-award winning drummer, percussionist, vocalist, songwriter, performer, arranger, producer, composer, instrumentalist, author and humanitarian Sheila E will also enhance the star quality of Africa’s Grandest Gathering. She is a celebrated artist who has also graced the performances of other major entertainments such as Prince, for whom she is a regular contributor, and Ringo Starr.

Other names that have been announced in this second round of line-up unveiling include Cape jazz master, Ramon Alexander, jazz guitarist Themba Mokoena the multi award-winning and much loved Elsies River School Band.

Commenting on the extraordinary line-up, Festival Director Billy Domingo remarked: “These artists are representative of the diversity of the jazz music genre. Each year we set out to select performers who provide depth and range of music craft, as well as broad entertainment value to our ever discerning audiences.

Previously announced names that will be performing at the 17th Cape Town International Jazz Festival include three-time Grammy-nominated soul songstress Angie Stone, three-time solo bassist award-winner Victor Wooten and instrumental jazz trio BADBADNOTGOOD.
