From March 4 to 6, the Sing Jazz Festival brings jazz back to Singapore for the third consecutive year.
At a press conference that took place yesterday at the ArtScience Museum, co-founder and artistic director of Sing Jazz David Lynbdon said that it will feature two stages, which will allow attendees to enjoy seven hours of continuous music from 3pm on the second and the third days of the festival.
The organisers have also announced the first wave of artists that will be performing at the festival’s third edition. Among the headline acts to be featured is Joss Stone, the legendary Cuban jazz band Buena Vista Social Club who are currently on their farewell tour, and British acid jazz band Incognito.
Other names that will grace the Sing Jazz main stage include local musicians Jeremy Monteiro and Charlie Lim, Italian jazz musician Enrico Rava and Nigerian act Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. The remaining Singapore-based and international acts to perform will be announced at a later date.
Michael Tay, executive director of the Foundation for the Arts and Social Enterprise stated that one of the focal points of Sing Jazz is to support local musicians. He said “If you don’t have a platform to allow your local musicians to perform with the best of international musicians, and some of their branding and pass it to our musicians, we will be in a rut for many years.”
Singer songwriter Charlie Lim is one of the Singapore-based acts that will be performing on the main stage of the 2016 Singapore Jazz Festival. He voiced his delight and praised the organisers for the opportunity given by saying “these guys are taking a gamble putting a local act on the main stage next to Joss Stone and Hiatus Kaiyote, to show just how much local musicians are worth.”
Sing Jazz Festival 2016 will be held from March 4 to 6 at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza. Early bird tickets from S$65 are available from today, 10am, (Nov 26) to Dec 13 from EventCliQue and Marina Bay Sands. For more details, visit http://www.sing-jazz.com.
