JAZZIZ Travelogue: Montreal Jazz Fest Day 1

JAZZIZ was on the scene for the 2019 Montreal International Jazz Festival, celebrating the fest’s 40th anniversary. Join me, JAZZIZ Editor Brian Zimmerman, as I take in the sights and sounds of Montreal, bringing you recaps from nightly concerts and taking you to some of the city’s must-see attractions.

After a long flight, I arrive in Montreal for my first full flight, taking in a quick set by Donny McCaslin at Gésu before checking out the lay of the land.

(Editor’s Note: The vocalist is Donny McCaslin’s band is Ryan Dahle, best known for his contributions to the bands Age of Electric and Limblifter. The name of the song that Donny McCaslin’s ensemble played as an encore is “I’ve Been Waiting For You.”)
