The British Association of Songwriters, Composers and Authors has unveiled its nominees for the British Composer Awards 2015.
These awards celebrate compositional excellence across 12 categories that include Contemporary Jazz Composition, Sonic Art, Stage Works and Wind Band or Brass Band.
For the category of Contemporary Jazz Composition Django Bates, who won the same award last year with ‘Study of Touch’, has been nominated once again, this time for ‘As I Was Saying’, which appeared on Arriving by Loose Tubes, an album celebrating the seminal big band’s 30th anniversary.
Bates’ fellow nominees include Birmingham-based saxophonist Mike Williams with ‘SAMA Project’ a horn-heavy octet that premiered at the CBSO Centre on 9 January, and Trish Clowes with her BBC commissioned musical fable ‘The Fox, The Parakeet & The Chestnut’.
The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) is a professional organisation based in London, UK, representing songwriters, composers and lyricists.
The awards ceremony will take place on 9 December at the British Film Institute.
