Derrick Hodge will be releasing his new album, The Second, on Blue Note Records on August 26.
The Second finds Hodge taking on the role of producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, playing all the instruments and contributing all the vocals on the album, aside from a few exceptions.
“I wanted to create something that exposed myself artistically, with a heartbeat for the people,” Hodge said in a press release. “My hope is for this sound to uplift people, help them get through whatever, and show that I’m all in for creating music for the rest of my life and career.”
The Second is Hodge’s sophomore album for Blue Note Records. His first, titled Live Today, was released in 2013.
