David Liebman to celebrate 70th birthday with a number of shows in New York City


Saxophonist, flautist and NEA Jazz Master David Liebman will celebrate his 70th birthday on September 4. To mark the occasion, he will perform a number of shows in two New York City venues at the end of August and the start of September.

 

On August 23-27, he will appear on stage at Birdland. There, he will play the music of pianist and composer Thelonious Monk alongside guitarist John Abercombie, bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Joey Baron.

 

On September 9-11, he will be at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, playing with his newest group Expansions. The group features saxophonist Matt Vashlishan, pianist Bobby Avey, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Alex Ritz.
