Guitarist Bill Frisell (pictured above) has joined Jazz at Lincoln Center as the curator of the organization’s new Roots of Americana Series. Throughout the series, Frisell and an array of guest musicians will explore the intersections of rock, country, jazz and blues. “Gershwin & Beyond,” the first concerts in the series will takes place on. and 9:30 p.m. in the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, in New York City. The concerts will investigate the music of William Billings, Stephen Foster and Charles Ives as well as Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
Frisell will be joined on “Gershwin & Beyond” by three fellow deconstructionists of American vernacular song: vocalist-banjoist-guitarist-pianist-fiddler Sam Amidon, pianist-composer Jason Moran, and mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran, who appeared in the Broadway production of Porgy and Bess in 2012.
Each “Gershwin & Beyond” performance will be webcast live on jalc.org/live.
Tickets for “Gershwin & Beyond” will be available on August 12. Ticket prices start at $45, dependent on seating section.
