On February 7, Paul McCartney—he of The Beatles and Wings and Pop Immortality—will release an album of standards that he remembers hearing while growing up. Tommy LiPuma produced the album, charmingly titled Kisses On the Bottom, while Diana Krall and her band served as McCartney’s backing group. Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder turned in guest appearances on a couple tracks. The album also includes two new McCartney originals: “My Valentine” and “Only Our Hearts.”
McCartney borrowed the album title from the lyrics to the opening track, “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter.” Originally made a big hit by Fats Waller in 1935, the song opens with the lines: “I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you/I’m gonna write words oh so sweet/They’re gonna knock me off of my feet/A lot of kisses on the bottom/I’ll be glad I got ’em.”
The album , which will also be available digitally, was recorded in Los Angeles, New York and London throughout 2011. Here’s the track listing:
