Jim Marshall’s Coltrane

john_coltranePhotographer Jim Marshall may not be a household name, but his images may already be in your home. This is the man, after all, who’s managed to snap iconic shots of Jimi Hendrix setting his Strat ablaze at the Monterey Pop Festival and of Johnny Cash delivering an infamous middle-finger salute at California’s San Quentin Prison. Marshall’s also shot memorable photos of Bob Dylan, the Who, the Beatles, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and many other musicians. At the recently launched website MarshallPhoto.com, more than 160 of Marshall’s images are for sale, along with signed copies of his books (including 2005’s Jazz) and other collectibles. Even if you’re not in the market for quality prints or a rare magazine from Marshall’s personal collection, it’s still rewarding fun to peruse the work of a gifted photographer.
