Grupo Fantasma, the 11-piece Latin funk outfit from Austin, Texas, known for their scintillating live shows, recently announced a heavy docket of concert appearances that’ll have the band on the road through the end of July. In recent years, Fantasma has gained some high-level notoriety by backing Prince on several occasions. The group’s latest release, last year’s Sonidos Gold, earned a Grammy nomination for “Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.” That capped off a year that featured relentless touring across North America, Europe and elsewhere. Highlights included appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, and a 10-day engagement entertaining troops in Iraq and Kuwait. In 2009, the band has continued touring and, as the following dates show, will continue touring well into summer. www.grupofantasma.com
